Veterinary Surgeon – Potters Bar, Hertfordshire

Reporting to

Village Vet, Potters Bar, is a lovely modern, well established first opinion practice in Hertfordshire. It has been part of the Village Vet family for over 20 years.

Our experienced team are really friendly and supportive and we currently have three long-standing vets (covering two full time roles), three RVNs and a student Veterinary Nurse.  The permanent team have all been here for over 5 years with the Head Vet working with us for over 12 years and the Head Nurse for over 25 years! People like to stay with us!

Our full time vet has been promoted within the group and is moving surgeries so we have a full time veterinary position to fill.

We have the best of both worlds; we have the back up of one of the Village Vet Vet24 RCVS accredited hospitals 15 minutes away when needed for more complex medical and surgical cases but have a fantastically equipped practice for keeping many cases in house. We have digital x-ray, dental digital x-ray, an ultrasound machine, in house blood machine and bronchoscope in the building permanently. We have air con and free parking in the back car park.

We have the RCVS General Practice Small Animal accreditation, are a silver-acredited ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic and have recently taken steps in house and with our clients to reduce canine anxiety where possible within the practice.

We would like the applicant to have at least 4-5 years experience (including at least two in the UK) and be confident in general medical, surgical and dental cases and be keen to perform a mixture of consulting and surgery in order to utilise all your skills and benefit the practice.

You will be required to work 1:3 Saturdays and 1:12 Sundays (latter at the St. Albans hospital alongside the hospital vet). There is no on-call due to the hospital seeing all cases OOH. There is an extreme incident rota which is shared among 15 vets.

We pride ourselves at Potters Bar on providing excellent client service so we need someone who enjoys this side of working as a vet and is keen to become part of our lovely team.

Shift: 45 hours a week. 1:3 Saturdays 8.30 - 4pm, 1:12 Sundays 8.30 - 2pm.

Benefits include;

  • Highly competitive salary
  • 4 weeks holiday plus bank holidays (one bank holiday per year to be working is compulsory with a day of your choice back in lieu).
  • As of 1st January 2020 holiday allowance will increase to 25 days per annum plus bank holidays plus Birthday Day.
  • RCVS fees paid
  • VDS Membership
  • £1000 CPD allowance with 5 days off to attend (Higher budget/courses negotiable)
  • Staff discount scheme
  • Workplace pension scheme
  • Additional CPD for Clinical Coaches
  • Holiday entitlement increase with years of service
  • Village Vet Bonus scheme
