Small Animal Emergency Doctor sought in a Central London multidisciplinary hospital
An exciting opportunity to work with the hospital team as a daytime emergency veterinarian has recently become available at our Tier 3 hospital. Village Vet Hampstead is a 24 hour small animal hospital which provides gold standard care for its own patients as well as over 10 first opinion clinics and a specialist referral clinic in the North London area. We have a team of dedicated vets and nurses, including a board certified Critical Care specialist (with a soon to be appointed second ECC specialist) and allied support from our neighbouring referral arm, London Veterinary Specialists (across the square). The dynamic team currently consists of over 14 veterinary surgeons with varying degrees of experience from board certified specialists to certificate holders and junior doctors, over 10 RVN’s, 6 student nurses, 6 Animal Care Assistants and a well-staffed reception, admin and support staff team.
We are currently looking for an individual with a minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience with a particular interest in Emergency and Critical Care to join our growing ER team. Those with interests in Internal Medicine, Clinical Pathology and/or Anaesthesiology would also be considered for the role, although experience with seeing emergency cases and managing critical patients is essential.

- A certificate or interest in furthering your skills in a very progressive and supportive environment which values practicing evidence based veterinary medicine and a multidisciplinary approach to ensure the highest level of care for our patients.
- A good standard of written and spoken English is essential
The successful applicant will be involved with ensuring excellent continuity of care for our ECC cases (1stopinion and referral) overseeing diagnostics, interventional procedures and communication with primary care practices and owners in a regular and timely fashion. There is an equally shared OOH rota for the weekends to ensure we provide the best standards of care – although the on call and night work will be done by our dedicated team of night staff to provide 24hour care for all of our patients. Should you have an interest in also performing OOH work there is flexibility to incorporate this into the role. There are extensive opportunities for teaching with access to all in house CPD provided by London Veterinary Specialists (aswell as all CPD provided by the Linnaeus group which includes five other well respected referral hospitals) and ongoing didactic seminars and lectures. You will be have access to specialists who can help with queries relating to all areas of Veterinary Medicine including:
- Emergency & Critical Care
- Soft Tissue Surgery (including laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques)
- Internal Medicine
- Diagnostic Imaging
Salary will be commensurate with experience and is highly competitive. The standard full time contract does not exceed 45 hours per week and usually consists of a 4-day week, with flexibility to negotiate terms dependent on the applicant’s level of experience and motivation for the role.
