To assist the clinical team in a in all aspects of animal management and husbandry duties to ensure patient care is consistently kept at a high standard. Working within our busy 24 hour emergency and critical care hospital, assisting with an array of various emergency cases.

Shift: 42 hours a week

Village Vet has 30 practices across North London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, which includes four 24-hour emergency hospitals and a specialist referral centre in Hampstead – London Vet Specialists. We have nearly 300 staff, including specialists in Soft Tissue Surgery, Dermatology and Emergency and Critical Care, staff with certificates in feline practice, and residency trained consultants in anaesthesia and internal medicine. The pace of work for Village Vet ranges from the quieter village practices in Cambridge, to the fast-paced, 24-hour emergency and critical care at Hampstead.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • Providing food and water to animals under the instruction of vets and nurses.
  • Providing clean, comfortable and safe environments to animals according to their condition and species requirements.
  • Assist the qualified nurses with the provision of basic nursing care such as above and bathing and grooming where necessary.
  • Monitoring and recording normal and abnormal behaviour, urination and defecation, and eating and drinking.
  • Handling and restraining conscious animals for medical procedures and investigations including blood sampling, IV catheters and ultrasounds.
  • Walking patients.
  • Assist the vets and nurses in setting up equipment and materials for medical procedures and investigations with the exclusion of medications.
  • Assist the vets and nurses in setting up for theatre practice excluding medications.

Assisting with veterinary practice management with the following:

  • Cleaning, packing and sterilisation of instruments, kits, drapes and other equipment.
  • Stocking up of consumables.
  • General administration – scanning and filing documents, reporting external lab results.

Essential Experience Required

  • Experience working within a veterinary hospital/clinic
  • Experience working with animals
